Coach Dave Elderkin

Dave Elderkin

How did you get into coaching?
I actually got interested in
Basketball when I attended Durham University and as part of my course attended a 6 week course on basketball.  It seemed an interesting game and I started playing basketball for Durham University . When I got my first teaching job they asked me to coach the 7th year team. Our first game was against Monkwearmouth School and we got thrashed 72—4.  Six years later that same team won the National Schools U19 title.

How long have you been coaching National League?
...off and on since 1979. I started coaching the Sunderland Team and in 1991 we had an awesome team that won the National Cup and the WICB

What do you enjoy most about coaching now?
….. Coaching and developing the current Wildcats Squads—this gives me a great sense of satisfaction because of the emphasis on YOUTH and producing our own players.

What is your club motto?
….on the prowl
