Wildcat Challenges

The Wildcats have challenged the pupils to get fitter by raising their heart rate for 10 minutes 6 times a day. The pupils made lots of suggestions how they could do this...... join a sports club, jog to school and home again, get their parents active by cycling, jogging or swimming, be more active at playtimes and lunchtimes. Here they are with Paul finding out what happens to the heart rate when we do some exercise.

Raising the Pulse

Paul shows the pupils where the heart is.

Wildcats Deliver Health Message to Byerley Park

Durham Wildcats Basketball Club launched their 'Active Wildcats' Health Programme earlier this year with an aim to 'use sport, physical activity, games and basketball as a vehicle to teach key lifestyle concepts which will have a long term impact upon school children'. Several schools in the Sedgefield area have been visited by the players of Durham Wildcats and have taken part in learning about healthy lifestyles. The programme includes work stations on 'Being Smoke Free' : Nutrition: Healthy Heart and how to stay fit: Basketball skills and games. Recently 7 players visited Byerley Park in Newton Aycliffe to deliver the programme and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon working with the girls and boys as can be seen from the photos below.
